James J. Kumpel, CFA
Jim Kumpel, who joined BB&T Capital Markets in May 2011, covers the Healthcare Outsourcing/Health & Human Services sector. He has been covering healthcare services companies since 1997, including pharmaceutical services, healthcare IT, and health and human services. Kumpel and his research team were honored by the National Investment Center in the late 1990s for his work on valuation techniques of senior care companies. In its 2011 "World's Top Analysts" survey, Financial Times/StarMine named him #3 for earnings estimates in healthcare technology. He has been recognized by Starmine four other times: #1 in excess returns and #2 in earnings accuracy in 2007, #1 in earnings accuracy in 2008, and #2 in earnings accuracy in 2001.
Prior to joining the firm, Kumpel was a managing director with Madison Williams. Previously he was a managing director with FBR Capital Markets and a senior analyst at Raymond James.
Mr. Kumpel received a bachelor’s degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University and earned his MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He is a member of the CFA Institute.
