Richard G. Backus II
Prior to joining BB&T Capital Markets, Mr. Backus served as Managing Director and industry group head of Real Estate Capital Markets for Morgan Keegan & Co. He was responsible for structured debt and equity real estate transactions. Preceding his association with Morgan Keegan, Mr. Backus was Managing Director, Investment Banking at Wheat First Butcher Singer. He began his career in Investment Banking as Vice President in Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities at Merrill Lynch Capital Markets.
In addition to his Investment Banking experience, Mr. Backus acquired commercial banking expertise at Household International where he was a Director of Commercial Mortgage Origination. He also served as Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer at the Glenview State Bank. He became a banker in 1978 when he was appointed as a Senior Bank Liquidator at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Mr. Backus earned a BA in Social Science from Marshall University, a MS in Public Administration from Eastern Kentucky, and a MBA with a concentration in Economics from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago.
