Mr. Newsome is based in Charlotte, NC and focuses on charter schools in BB&T's Education Banking efforts. Mr. Newsome has over 30 years of experience in the Corporate Banking and Capital Markets sectors. Prior to focusing on the education sector, he managed the Private Placement and Project Finance efforts at BB&T Capital Markets, closing over $900 million in financings. From 1997 to 2001, Mr. Newsome managed the Cross Border Leverage Leasing Group for BB&T, closing large infrastructure transactions valued at more than $6.7 billion, in the jurisdictions of Norway, Sweden, Austria, Holland, Switzerland and Germany.
Prior to joining BB&T Corporate & Institutional, Mr. Newsome managed a Corporate Banking Group for BB&T and worked for Wachovia Bank in their National Banking Group. He has served on several nonprofit boards in Greensboro, NC, served as the finance committee chair for a K-12 Independent School, and was active in the start up of an Episcopal Day School in Greensboro. Mr. Newsome is also a frequent speaker and panelist at various state and national charter school conferences.
Mr. Newsome has an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA from the Babcock Graduate School of Management at Wake Forest University with a concentration in finance.
